Tooth Pain - Its Causes And Home Remedies
One of the most common health conditions we have all encountered at some point of time in our lives is tooth pain. For many of us it just happens once in a while, but some others suffers from this problem quite frequently. When you have a tooth pain, usually the areas that ache include teeth, jaws and the gum. The intensity of the pain can vary from mild and slightly irksome to extremely hurting and even depressing.
Causes of tooth pain

Tooth pain occurs because of the irritation in the nerves that are associated with the gum and the teeth. These nerves carry various sensations to the brain such as heat, touch and pain among others. The causes of tooth pain can be broadly classified into oral causes and non-oral causes. Let us examine the various underlying causes.
Oral causes of tooth pain occur due to conditions such as tooth decay, gum disease, root sensitivity, cracked or broken teeth, eruption of wisdom tooth and fillings.
Tooth decay - Commonly termed as cavities, this is considered to be the most popular reason for getting toothache. Tooth decay occurs mainly because of poor dental hygiene, as a result of which accumulated food particles forms bacteria and destroys the oral cavity.
Gum Disease - This condition occurs again due to poor dental care. Bacteria is formed which releases toxins and harmful elements, destroying the gum. Those suffering from gum infection have swollen and painful gum.
Root Sensitivity - This is a weird condition when the roots of the teeth are affected. The teeth not only become highly sensitive to hot or cold food, but also give a lot of pain.
Tooth fracture - An accident or strong bite may cause the tooth to crack. This causes intense pain.
Eruption of wisdom tooth - In this case, the pain is caused due to misalignment. If becomes severe, you may need to go for a surgery.
Fillings - People with fillings can get major toothache. This can be prevented by undergoing root canal treatment.
Other causes of tooth pain include high fever due to sinus infection, ear pain and headache.
Prevention of tooth pain
There is no magic formula for tooth prevention. It is important to brush your teeth the right way to have healthy teeth in general.
- To avoid toothache of any type, you need to rinse your mouth with warm water. You can perhaps put a pinch of salt while you rinse your mouth as it gives faster relief
- On the tooth that is affected, you can apply clove oil or chew a clove.
- You can even consider placing a raw piece of onion on the pain area. This gives temporary and immediate relief.
- One of the best remedies is to put a whiskey BC Mixture on the affected and rinse your mouth after some time.
- For mouthwash, rinse with rose water or peppermint water which are refreshing agent.
- Brushing the area with a right toothbrush preferably a soft-bristled or an M-shaped bristle toothbrush also gives some relief to your pain.
- If the toothache increases immediately contact your dentist.
